Salmon Fishing

The River Dee offers some of the finest fishing in Scotland. The Balmoral Beat and Birkhall Beat are located on the South Bank of the river, stretching from The Brig O' Dee (near Braemar) down to Dalliefour (near Ballater).

These fishing beats are available for rental on the open market from April until the end of July each year.

Fishing is normally let on a weekly basis, with rentals running Monday until Saturday. Prices vary throughout the season and fishing is let with the services of a ghillie, shared between the rods on the beat.

It is sometimes possible to arrange for part weeks fishing, either Monday to Wednesday or Thursday to Saturday. Please contact us for details.

The Balmoral Beat is a three rod beat and the Birkhall Beat is a two rod beat.

Balmoral Estates support the voluntary code of practice on the River Dee and encourage fishing tenants to follow these conservation measures by returning all salmon to the river in order to aid the recovery of stocks.

A new scheme, which aims to help boost the salmon population on The River Dee is being trialed at the River Muick this season. Details of this scheme and other initiatives to help improve salmon numbers can be found on The River Dee Trust website.
