Othello

This Othello outdoor theatre performance has been produced by Grantly Marshall of ADG Europe

Othello is perhaps Shakespeare's most perfect play. It is also one that resonates with particular force in today's troubled world. Paul Stebbings' production has been seen around the globe, from Tokyo to Berlin and Costa Rica to China meeting with great acclaim from both audiences and critics. The production is complimented by Thomas Johnson's powerful and emotional music, with live instruments and complex sung harmonies underscoring the action as in a film. The setting is historical as Shakespeare intended but the resonance and staging are contemporary. The production explores the poetry and drama of the Bard at the height of his powers. This is Shakespeare illuminated rather than interpreted: a magnificent study of human frailty, a romance, a musical drama, at times even a comedy and surely one of the greatest tragedies ever staged.

Othello arrives at Balmoral Castle to celebrate the Jubilee of HRH Queen Elizabeth as part of a European wide tour of some fifty castles and palaces from Norway to France. The director, Paul Stebbings presence at Balmoral is apt as he was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday honours for his contribution to British Culture.

No touring company has performed more of Shakespeare’s major works to more people in more countries than TNT theatre. The productions are marked by clear story telling, and many of the resources that Shakespeare himself would have used: such as live music and simple staging. The productions feature a virtuoso acting ensemble who take multiple roles and combine physical, musical and dramatic skills. This is Shakespeare that is accessible to all, a thrilling evening delivered by a top class company in an extraordinary setting to honour a Royal Jubilee.

Performance will start at 7.00 p.m. and the gates will open at 6.00 p.m. Our BBQ will be available (cash payments only).
