Visiting

Balmoral Castle

Balmoral Castle began construction in 1853, following the purchase of the estate by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1852.

The original castle, a 16th century tower house, was too small accommodate to Victoria and Albert’s family and so a new castle was commissioned.
Designed by Aberdeen based architect, William Smith, the foundation stone for the new castle was laid by Queen Victoria in September 1853. The castle took three years to build and was built entirely by hand, constructed from locally sourced materials.

His Majesty King Charles III has forged a new vision for Balmoral, opening the castle for an unprecedented and exclusive opportunity for the public to visit inside the famous holiday residence.

Situated in an awe inspiring Highland setting with new sights in every season.
